Guide · Certified translations
Which certified translations do I need for a UK visa?
Interpret “certified translation” using the actual British application instructions. Start with your visa category.

The short answer
UKVI visitor-visa guidance requires a full, independently verifiable translation for records not in English or Welsh. It specifies an accuracy confirmation, translation date, translator’s full name, signature and contact details. For other visa categories, check the current instructions for that category.
Establish the visa category and evidence
Record the official application name and save its checklist. Separate personal, financial and travel evidence so the translation enquiry covers exactly the selected records.
The linked UKVI page concerns visitor visas. Do not treat it as the complete checklist for work, study or family visas; include the relevant instructions for your assignment.

Include the certification requirements in your enquiry
Send the translation instructions together with your source files. Language direction and certification details can then be discussed before delivery rather than comparing terminology afterwards.
A German translator’s certification, a notarised copy and a British application requirement address different aspects. Request the format actually needed without assuming additional certifications are necessary.
Prepare legible financial and personal evidence
For statements and certificates, keep page margins, dates, currency and issuer visible. Clarify acceptable scope before requesting a partial translation and preserve the source order.
Check the finished files against your selection. Retain a complete copy of the submitted set so questions can be answered without searching through different drafts.
Your next steps
Select the visa category and official instructions.
Assemble the records you intend to use.
Specify translation and certification requirements.
Match sources and final versions to the application.
More questions
Does every UK visa require the same records?
Use the instructions for your application category. The visitor-visa guide is not a universal document list.
Should I automatically order an apostille?
Check authentication against the actual requirement. It is a separate step from translation.
Can I translate only selected lines?
Obtain approval for any reduced scope first. The cited visitor-visa guidance calls for a full translation.
