Keep the document, apostille and translation connected

An apostille is an additional confirmation used in international document procedures. It is different from certification of a translation or certification of a document copy. Whether it is needed depends on the procedure and the countries concerned.

For translation, supply the connected pages: the certificate, apostille and any relevant further annotations. Ask the recipient which parts are required in which language. Translation alone does not replace a requested apostille or the recipient’s decision to accept the documents.

Clarify the sequence before ordering

Ask whether the recipient requires an apostille on the source document or an additional confirmation relating to the translation. An apostille that must itself be translated needs to be available for that assignment. Agree any outstanding authority steps before posting documents.

Further confirmations and notes

Include relevant reverse sides, attachments, registration details and further confirmations in the file selection.

Country names alone do not establish the required form. Ask the recipient to confirm the requirements for your specific document.

What we need to review the assignment

  • Complete, readable files of the certificate, apostille and relevant additional pages.
  • The issuing country, destination country, recipient and intended use.
  • The source and target languages and the exact requirement for certifying the translation.
  • Your deadline and details of any authority steps still outstanding.

From your documents to the right translation

  1. Confirm requirements and documents

Check the recipient’s instructions and specify the document type, languages and all required pages.

  2. Review the estimate

Check the scope and details. Provide personal-name spellings, deadlines and additional certification instructions.

  3. Complete your order

Proceed after reviewing your information. The initial estimate alone does not place an order.

Questions about apostille translation

Does every apostille need translating?

That depends on the recipient’s instructions. Ask whether the apostille itself and any other annotations need to be supplied in the target language.

Can I send the apostille without its certificate?

For review, send the apostille with its related document wherever possible. We can clarify the translation scope from the context and the recipient’s instructions.

Is an apostille the same as translation certification?

No. An apostille and certification of a translation serve different functions. A certified copy is another separate document form.

Which step should happen first?

Confirm the requested form with the recipient. An apostille to be translated must be available for the translation assignment. Additional confirmations relating to the translation may involve a different sequence.

Do you issue apostilles on original certificates?

Issuing an apostille is the responsibility of the competent authority. If you need help with additional confirmations, enquire about that separately and provide the recipient’s instructions.

Prepare the certificate and apostille together

Supply the connected pages and the recipient’s written instructions so the translation scope can be clarified before ordering.
