Which records need translating for recognition of a teaching qualification?

School type, subjects and training route belong together in teaching recognition. The competent authority in the intended German state determines the required evidence.

The short answer

First establish the German state, qualification origin and competent recognition procedure. Alongside the qualification, records of subjects, training scope and professional eligibility may matter. The cited Bavarian rule concerns EU, EEA and Swiss teaching qualifications and allows appropriate German translations to be requested; it is not a nationwide checklist for every origin.

Distinguish professional recognition from academic evaluation

State the intended teaching role, school type and subjects. Confirm which authority assesses your training route rather than ordering a general academic evaluation alone.

An academic evaluation or its translation does not automatically replace professional recognition. Use the checklist for the actual teaching procedure and identify applications already made.

Assemble the training route and requested attachments

Organise the qualification, subject and grade record and requested training or professional-practice evidence. Record each source’s issuer and scope to avoid confusing similarly named documents.

The Bavarian provision governs its own application procedure, including possible translation requirements. For another state or qualification origin, ask that competent authority expressly about format and scope.

Commission the confirmed translation scope

Send complete requested records with the authority’s checklist and desired target language. For extensive module descriptions, first establish which parts are actually needed.

Supply the deadline, name references and required certification. Translation renders the training records; it does not assess equivalence or permission to teach.

Your next steps

  1. Establish the state, school type and qualification origin.

  2. Obtain the competent teaching-recognition checklist.

  3. Organise the qualification and requested attachments.

  4. Enquire with confirmed scope, deadline and format.

More questions

Is a ZAB evaluation sufficient for teaching?

It does not automatically replace the competent professional-recognition procedure. Confirm the correct route with that authority.

Does the Bavarian source apply to every German state?

No. It has a defined scope; check the authority competent for your case.

Must I translate every module description?

Confirm the scope actually requested first. Avoid commissioning an unconfirmed complete collection.
