Which documents need translating to register a death abroad in Germany?
A foreign death certificate can be needed by different recipients. Registration in the German death register is a distinct procedure.

The short answer
Ask the competent registry office about eligibility and its document list. Service Berlin describes registration of an overseas death for specified groups without a general obligation to apply. Besides the death certificate, further civil and identity records may be needed; prepare foreign-language records and possible authentication against that checklist.
Clarify jurisdiction and the intended procedure
Record the place of death, nationality and residence connections when asking the registry office. Distinguish registration, use of a certificate and later inheritance matters in your task list.
Berlin’s procedural page sets eligibility conditions and points to another jurisdictional route where there was no previous German residence. Identify the appropriate office before sending records.

Organise the death certificate and supporting records
Assemble requested birth, marriage and further family records separately. Name files clearly and retain reverse sides and attached confirmations.
Identify name versions appearing in the records and how the people can be matched. A missing certificate must be obtained or discussed with the recipient; a free-form summary does not replace it.
Consider other recipients separately
A pension body, bank and registry office may need the same certificate for different purposes. Ask each about language and format and list additional issued copies separately.
Include the actual instructions with your translation enquiry. Translation replaces neither registration nor notifications to other bodies; track those steps separately.
Your next steps
Identify the competent registry office and procedure.
Assemble complete required certificates.
Ask each recipient about language and source format.
Agree translations and extra issued copies precisely.
More questions
Is retrospective registration always compulsory?
The cited procedural page identifies no general obligation. Clarify eligibility and your application purpose.
Is the death certificate alone sufficient?
The checklist may request additional family and identity evidence. Check the complete set.
Does translation automatically notify the bank and pension body?
No. The translation assignment and notifications to recipients are separate tasks.
