Guide · Certified translations
Will a German certified translation be accepted in Austria?
For Austria, the intended use matters. Residence, study and other procedures should be checked with their respective receiving organisations.

The short answer
There is no useful blanket assurance. Ask the Austrian recipient whether the particular German translation and translator’s status are accepted. Austria maintains a register of generally sworn and judicially certified interpreters; specific procedural rules and possible language exemptions must also be checked.
Identify the Austrian recipient precisely
Record the authority or institution, department and intended use. Ask whether an existing German version is sufficient and which requirements apply to your document type.
Official residence guidance, for example, explains that the authority may request German translations and certified formats. This concerns residence permits; it is not a universal rule for every Austrian recipient.

Check translator status and the existing version
The European e-Justice Portal points to Austria’s publicly accessible judicial interpreter register. Use the status described there when your recipient expressly requires that credential.
If a translation already exists, show its certification page to the recipient. A focused enquiry may establish whether an addition is needed before considering a complete replacement.

Agree source format, attachment and delivery
Ask about the required source format and whether the translation must be attached to the certificate. Distinguish originals, official copies and ordinary image files in your list.
Include the confirmed recipient instructions with your enquiry. State the number of issued copies and deadline so the proposed delivery fits your actual purpose.
Your next steps
Record the recipient and procedure in Austria.
Ask about language and translator status.
Check existing versions and required attachment.
Supply the actual instructions with your enquiry.
More questions
Is a German stamp alone sufficient?
The recipient’s requirement is decisive. Have the actual version and translator status checked.
Where can I find Austria’s judicial interpreter register?
The linked European e-Justice page directs you to the official search and explains access.
Must an English certificate always be translated into German?
Ask for your particular procedure. An accepted language version may remove the need for another translation.
