When do I need a tradução juramentada for Brazil?

A Portuguese translation and a Brazilian tradução juramentada are not automatically the same format. The country and procedure in which you use the record matter.

The short answer

Brazilian procedures may require a public translator qualified in Brazil. The Justice Ministry describes this, with specified exceptions, for the cited naturalisation procedure. For Brazilian records used in Germany, the German recipient’s requirements apply. Confirm the status and available issuing route before commissioning.

Distinguish use in Brazil from use in Germany

Record the actual receiving authority, procedure and desired language. “Certified Portuguese” does not by itself identify the legally required status.

German missions in Brazil explain the countries’ different translator qualifications. Before obtaining another translation, check whether an existing version is sufficient for your actual recipient.

Keep an official requirement within its actual scope

The cited Brazilian justice guidance concerns a particular naturalisation procedure and treats translation separately from legalisation and Apostilles. Do not turn its conditions into a universal checklist for every Brazilian application.

Ask the competent recipient whether translation, authentication and another confirmation are each required. Keep the written answer with the document checklist.

Enquire expressly about the particular qualification

Send the instructions with complete records and existing authentication. Identify name differences, older translations and pages added later.

German certification does not promise Brazilian public-translator status. Enquire specifically about the required route; availability and scope must be confirmed before such an assignment.

Your next steps

  1. Record the country of use and competent procedure.

  2. Ask which public-translator status is required.

  3. Check authentication and translation separately.

  4. Enquire about availability using the complete requirements.
