Are certified translations ordered online accepted?

For an online assignment, the responsible translator, complete work and correct delivery format matter. Visiting an office in person does not by itself make a translation more suitable.

The short answer

The ordering channel does not determine whether a certified translation is suitable. The translator’s relevant authorisation, language direction, complete documents and recipient instructions matter. Online files can help start the process; any requirements for originals or paper copies still need clarification.

What should a clear quotation tell you?

Look for an identifiable provider with reachable contact details, a defined scope and clear information about the issued version and delivery. Check that the requested language direction is covered and how questions about names or missing pages will be handled.

For official use, it should be clear which appropriately qualified translator takes responsibility. The German justice authorities’ translator directory can help when checking authorisation. A low price or a seal image on a website does not replace that assessment.

How to prepare an assignment without visiting an office

Collect the complete source and the recipient’s instructions. Our initial estimate is free, requires no registration and is not yet an order. Particular requirements or an unclear document type may need further assessment.

Before placing a binding order, clarify the document scope, language direction, required format and deadline. If the translator needs an original or certified copy, arrange presentation separately. An online form does not remove those requirements.

Send documents and answer questions appropriately

Use the agreed transfer method and discuss particularly sensitive content or confidentiality requirements first. Avoid sending personal documents to multiple unknown providers simply to obtain an immediate price. An anonymised description may suffice for an initial general question.

Keep the order confirmation and the agreed instructions. Report changes early, for example if the authority now asks for paper instead of a scan. If needed, you can arrange an in-person handover in Passau with us.

Your next steps

  1. Check the provider and relevant qualifications.

  2. Have complete files and recipient instructions ready.

  3. Confirm scope, timing, format and delivery.

  4. Discuss confidentiality and any original-document requirements.

More questions

Does the translator have to be in my city?

Proximity to your home is not a general measure of quality or acceptance. The requirements for the particular assignment matter.

Does a free initial estimate place an order?

No. Our initial estimate provides an indication and requires no registration.

Does uploading remove every other requirement?

No. Uploading transfers files; it does not replace checks of the required source or final format.
